Students in second grade made beautiful, colorful butterflies, using a fun technique called "Squish Art"
With this trick, your butterfly will have perfect symmetry. This means both sides of the butterfly will look exactly the same.
🎨 What You Need (Materials):
- A white sheet of cardboard.
- Liquid paint in your favorite colors.
- A paintbrush
🖌️ Step-by-Step Guide:
Step 1: Fold the paper
Take your white paper. Fold it in half like a book. Press the edge, and then open it again. Now you have a magic line in the middle!

Step 2: Paint ONE side
Choose your colors. Paint half of a butterfly body right next to the middle line. Then, paint only one wing on one side of the paper. Use a lot of paint! Dots and lines work best. Do not paint the other side!

Step 3: The Magic Squish!
Close the paper carefully while the paint is still wet. Use your hands to press and rub the paper gently. Say the magic words: Squish, squish, squish!

Step 4: The Big Reveal
Open the paper very slowly. Wow! Look at that! The paint moved to the other side. Now you have a complete, perfectly symmetrical butterfly!

🌟 Art Tip:
Try mixing colors! What happens if you put a dot of yellow paint next to a dot of blue paint? When you squish them, they make green!
Have fun creating your butterfly garden! 🦋
