Animated drawings

Students in second grade learnt how to convert their drawings into pieces of animation, using the website Animated Drawings.

What you need before starting

  • A piece of white paper.

  • Markers, crayons, or colored pencils.

  • A camera (a phone or a tablet works perfectly).

  • A computer or tablet with internet.

Step 1: Draw your character

Your character must follow three simple rules:

  • Full body: Your character needs a head, a body, arms, and legs. Do not forget any part!

  • Arms and legs apart: Draw your character standing like a star. The arms and legs must not touch the body.

  • Clean background: Use plain white paper with no lines. Try not to wrinkle the page!

Step 2: Take a photo

When you finish coloring, ask an adult to help you take a photo of your drawing.

  • Make sure there is good light.

  • Hold the camera straight above the paper.

  • Try to keep shadows and fingers out of the photo.

Step 3: Go to the magical website

Go with your parents or teacher to:

https://sketch.metademolab.com

and click the blue button that says "Get Started".

  1. Upload your drawing: Click "Upload Photo" and choose your picture. Then click "Next".

  1. Box your character: Move the lines of the box to fit your character inside.

  1. Clean the background: The website will highlight your character. If there is a mistake, use the virtual pen or eraser to select only your drawing.

  1. Place the joints: This is the best part! You will see little dots on the screen. Move them to your character's eyes, hands, elbows, shoulders, and knees. This tells the computer how to bend the body!

Step 4: Time to dance!

That's it! Now you can see your drawing moving on the screen. On the left side, you can choose many different movements:

  • Dance: Make your drawing dance.

  • Funny: Silly and funny movements.

  • Jump: Watch it jump in the air!

  • Walk: See your character walk around.

You can click the full-screen button to see it big,or use the share button to download the video.
